Otherwise, don’t call it love. If you can’t forgive the person you can’t love them either. Without forgiveness, the person becomes unapproachable. How can you love without proximity?
Just as love is a command, forgiveness is also a command. And when you don’t forgive, you’re ignoring the command of Jesus. Forgiveness is a prerequisite for love as both go hand in hand.
When Jesus said “Love your enemies,” it was definitely a “loaded” command. Because there were appropriate reasons for your ongoing enmity. All this time, you just avoided that person and kept a safe distance. Now, with Jesus’ command, you’re trapped. You’ve got to forgive. So now, it’s time to deal with it.
