How much – or how far should we trust? After risking and trusting, what if we are let down? The risk involves our honor, reputation, and future.

Noah trusted God without any evidence or confirmation. His trust in God was at a higher level than we could imagine. He took one risk after another – all in obedience to God.

Noah took the risk of building the ark one beam at a time. He did it while everyone watched. I’m sure they asked about the foolishness of such a huge project – for an unknown cause and an unseen God.

Don’t expect everyone to follow God. The risk is too great. It’s often the minority and not the major part of society that makes the decision to follow.

But the ones who follow are ready to take the risk. Everyone who sees them may ridicule them, but their hearts are set on the one who called them. And the one who called will transform them into the image of Jesus.

But there are many who don’t trust Jesus with their lives – but they do attend church. I suppose Church is like fire insurance for them. By all means they want to avoid hell. And but by no means do they want to give up control of their lives to someone else – even to Jesus.

How do you walk with a God you cannot see? God is Spirit. But if he was human, we could imagine walking with him. Yet we know that God’s Spirit dwells within every child of God. So in essence, shall we conclude that all believers walk with God since they all have his Spirit within?

Does the indwelling of God’s Spirit indicate walking with God? The Lord spoke through the prophet Amos and said “Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?” To walk together, there must be agreement. Amos was talking about God and the nation of Israel. Israel had not “walked with God” as they should have. They went their own way.

For Enoch and Noah, we can imagine that they were in agreement with God as they “walked with God” on the journey of life. But the human tendency is to go our own way – rather than God’s way. There has to be a way to deal with this struggle of “two ways.”

As an antidote to this dilemma, God said,

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God and they shall be my people (Jer 31:31).

This verse states that God’s laws will become etched in our hearts and our hearts will be aligned with God’s desires. Does this look like a good recipe for walking with God?

Someone called me on the phone and referred to me as a “fraud” who is only after money. Surprise! I just received a new designation.

The man went on to mention other pastors and churches in our area (where they had attended) and said they’re way better than us. Certainly, they are better. But why didn’t he stay there? Why did he move on to other churches? Obviously, he was looking for something better, bigger, or more. 

Those who go from church to church are missing something vital. The goal ought to be to grow in Christ and to serve him and the community.

Unfortunately for This man, the goal was something other than Jesus and his Church.

Most probably he’ll move on. He’ll keep searching for something other than Jesus.
